This is the story of the much anticipated ice cream...
As most of you know we had originally planned to make our ice cream last week but a little virus got in the way. So...we rescheduled for today and man was that an adventure for us teachers. After gathering all of the ingredients Mary and I sat out to get everything ready to go. While the children were sleeping we mixed all of the ingredients in the tubs ( we had four) and then got ready to put them on ice. After getting everything ready we realized that two of the ice cream makers did not have the plastic lids...so...we improvised. Mary made makeshift lids out of coffee container lids...that's what us teachers do... improvise. With two of the machines going we started hooking up the second two with...NO LUCK! Those little plastic lids are a necessity...we found that out. So at this point we only have two machines. Da dadada...here comes Ms. Gale...she says she thinks we have an ice cream maker and rummages through the shed to find it. She brings it back but guess what...NO PLASTIC LID!!!! Yes that's right, back to square one...but...Gale says let me go look again and she comes back with a plastic lid!!!!! We then mix the two flavors together (since we only have one container) and ....we're off!!
Finally...that was a lot of work but the children are going to love it...uh...not so much. Some of the children enjoyed it but for the most part we were told "I don't like it" or "this isn't good" or "I don't want it". HA HA...no worries the teachers thought it was really good so we made sure it did not go to waste.
So to sum it all up...of the original four only one really made ice cream ( I forgot to mention that one of the other machines never really produced a firm substance)...the one we dug from the shed ended up making the best batch...who would have guessed?
Anyway...the ice cream we made was really good...so here's the recipe. Maybe your children will like it next time:
One can of sweet condensed milk
One can of crushed pineapple-drain most of the juice-
Fill the rest with one of the following or mix them: peach soda, strawberry soda, orange soda or grape soda (the peach and strawberry mixed was EXCELLENT!!!!) ( grape-not my favorite) ( orange-very good!)
Needless to say...we probably will not be having homemade ice cream for a while...at least until we forget about this afternoon's adventures.
BTW...making homemade ice cream was my idea...I think I will keep those to myself for a while...ha ha!!!
